VTKAY, known as miss vi, is a Melbourne DJ playing Amapiano, Afrobeats, R&B and hip hop. Where sound meets culture and style.
There are enough Amapiano and Afrobeats crowds in Melbourne now to fill a room on a Friday, which was not true a few years ago. VTKAY plays the sound the way it is built, with the log drum given room to sit, instead of dropping two known tracks into an otherwise commercial set.
A set usually starts in Amapiano, moves through Afrobeats, and picks up R&B or hip hop once the floor is full. Where it goes depends on the room, so it gets decided on the night rather than written out beforehand.
Four full sets are on YouTube, so you can hear an hour of her actually mixing before you book anything. Most DJ pages give you a photo and a genre list.
The booth is in the middle of your room and people look at it all night, so how it presents matters too. She takes bookings across Melbourne for nightclubs, private parties, weddings, corporate events, brand activations and festivals.
